Bruce & Merrilees to Sponsor Annual Heart Walk

SHARON, PA - September 26, 2017 - Bright red shoes are tiptoeing their way through lawns in Mercer and Lawrence counties, calling attention to the fight against heart disease and stroke, the nation's number one and number five killers.

The fun campaign began Thursday in the lawn of Don Owrey, president of UPMC Horizon and chairman of the 2017 Mercer-Lawrence Healthy For Good Heart Walk. The walk is a key fundraiser supporting the American Heart Association, the world's leading voluntary organization dedicated to building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

"This is an interactive way for us to remind our community about some of our greatest health threats," Owrey said. "When someone's yard is 'stomped' they can make a small donation to support the Heart Walk and know that they are making a difference in the community."

The association's annual Mercer-Lawrence Healthy For Good Heart Walk is set for Thursday, Oct. 19 at Buhl Park. Activities begin at 5 p.m. with the walk at 6 p.m. Individuals, teams and companies can sign up in advance at www.heart.org/mercerlawrencewalk.

Sponsors for the Mercer-Lawrence Healthy For Good Heart Walk include UPMC Horizon, Sharon Regional Health System, The New Deal Club, Primary Health Network, The Nugent Group and Bruce & Merrilees.
